Morning Jewell Clay, born in July, 1856 in Sumter County Alabama, known at that time as the Southern Division. Morning, my great grand mother was a registered Cherokee Indian and listed in the 1850 Census in Sumter County. Morning's father was George W. Clay, born in 1825, and her mother's name was Mary A. Hand. Morning's husband, my great grand father, Henry Witt, born in 1842, and enslaved by Joseph Arrington, who also enslaved the family of Richard Arrington, the former Mayor of Birmingham. My great, great grand mother's name was Fannie Hare, born around 1820, and enslaved by the Arrington Family. Jonathan Hare of our 1961 and I share the same great great grand mother, originally married to Bill Witt and later Wesley Hare, near Livingston, Alabama.
